What does Pilates 1883 Classical Legacy mean?
When brainstorming ideas for studio names, Ancil & I wanted something specific, unique, and timeless. So what kind of studio: Pilates studio, but I could not name it after myself, I was not the mastermind who brought Contrology to the world. We decided after the brilliant inventor and entrepreneur Joseph Hubertus Pilates.
You ask, why the year 1883, because that was the year ”Uncle Joe” was born; allowing Pilates to proliferate a worldwide method, we still practice today. Classical, refers to Pilates original work, out of the archival notes and teachings of his protégés to second, third and fourth generation instructors. In my opinion, classical Pilates, is the one and only Pilates, as with anything classical, it never goes out of style, the rest is just movement. And lastly, Legacy refers to two areas, lineage and apparatus’. Leigh having direct connection to the original teachings of Joseph H Pilates through the Romana Kryzanowska lineage, one of Pilates most trusted protégés. Legacy also refers to the type of apparatus’ used in the studio. Legacy Pilates Apparatus is the best of the best worldwide and it is as beautiful, as it is functional.
Every word and tone in the name has a reason and a purpose, much like the classical movement and teachings of Joseph H PIlates; every move, even the transitions, have a reason and a purpose.
